Obituary: Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. mult. Knut Borchardt (1929-2023)
Knut Borchardt, Emeritus Professor of Economic History, passed away on February 5, 2023, at 93 years of age.

He held the Chair of Economic History from 1969 until his retirement in 1991. Professor Borchardt was the leading economic historian in post-war West Germany, highly esteemed by his colleagues here in Munich, by his students and mentees, and in the entire profession. He received major awards, including a Leibniz Preis. Active long past his retirement, he was an influential member of the Board of Academic Advisors of the Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences.
